    The Federalist were one of the First U.S parties
    It started in 1787
    In 1796 Jefferson started a group called the Democratic- Republican
  • George Washington

    George Washington
    When George Washington was in office as President, he didn't really pick a side between the two partys. When he decided to step down from office toward the end of his term he sent letters to people to worn them about the dangerous of the two partys
  • Defeat of President John Adams

    Defeat of President John Adams
    John Adams was a Federalist and was running for office again. Thomas Jefferson beat him in the election. The election was marked as the first peacfull transitio of power between the two partys. Not only in the U.S but in the whole world.
  • The Republican Party

    The Republican Party
    By this time the two partys were divided by slavery.In 1854 the Congress passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This allowed slavery to expand to Kansas. On July 6, 1854 the first offical meeting of the Nothern Wings, And the anti- slavery Democratics, joined a small anti- slavery group called the Free Soil Party. This formed the Republicans.

    The Donkey and the Elephant
    By the 1870 the Donkey, and the Elephant where known as the symbols of the Democrat, and Republican partys. The Democrats offically made the elephant there mascot. But the Republican party never offically made the donkey their mascot. But is widely know as their mascot.
  • Federalist Lost Thier Power

    In the 1880's the Federalist lost thier power over the government to Jefferson and his party.
    For 20 years the Federalist were a minority.
    George Washington was a synpathies for the Federalist party.
