This also assisted if the person couldn't get to what they needed such as the doctors. This made it more reliable and easier to obtain the services.

    Air conditioning was first invented in 1902. It wasn't common throughout the households until around the 40s or 50s but the households that was equiped with one in 1902 were provided comfort. This helped manage the household with less sickness and the ability to do more around the house without getting overheated.

    They iron allowed househoulds to maintain clothes efficently without having to spend extra time hanging clothes again to decrease wrinkles.
  • Radio

    The radio allowed for households to stay connected to the outside world. It not only gave them a form of entertainment, but also gave them knowledge to important happening around them.
  • Vacuum Cleaner

    The vacuum cleaner was invented in 1908. This allowed women the ability to clean more effectively and efficently. This was the first motorized house cleaning tool and made it easier and quicker to clean the floors of the house.

    The Model T, automobile, was the first inexpensive vehicle. This allowed for people to get around quicker which helped household management by being able to get one place from another quicker to get home sooner. This also assisted home delivery people to get their work done and have money to back to their household.

    The gas stove made cooking quicker based on the heating of the stove. It was also a lot smaller and fit better into the small kitchens most familys had. Also it did not give off as much heat so there was no need for chimneys. This had an impact on the household because it was quicker to cook ingredients and get them to the correct temperature.

    The refridgerator allowed households to save left over meals and perserve meats and other foods. This cut down times in which families had to prepare meals when there were left overs. Families also could perserve important foods like meats.

    The telephone allowed people to communicate without having to be face to face. This also assisted in order goods and services for home delivery.

    The washing machine first made its apperance in homes around 1935. Before this, women had to hand wash clothes and hang them to dry. This took hours and a lot of work. The washing maching made it easier for women to do more clothes at once and ring the clothes out better so that drying the clothes on a line wouldn't take as long.

    The dishwasher helped women clean quicker and more efficently. The dishwasher allowed for more dishes to cleaner at once. Plus while the dishes were being cleaned the women could do something else.

    The black and white television became very popular in 1953, years later the color television came out. The television impacted the household by bringing families together for entertainment. It allowed households to manage time together.

    The microwave oven made it quicker for households to cook certain foods, especially TV dinners at this time. It also didn't warm up the houses as much and was easier to use.

    In the 50s life was starting to go at a quicker pace. The TV dinner assisted with just that. With families using the television to come together at night the TV dinners were made to minimize cooking time and clean up time.

    While birth control is not an appliance, this advancement in the time allowed women to manage their household and have the power and control of when they want children and how many they want.
  • Telephone Answering Machine

    As households are becoming more and more active, the answering machine allows the household to recieve important messages even when they can't answer the phone. This helps keep the household organized and in touch.
  • Smoke Detector

    The smoke detector allowed the household to feel safer and manage their own safety to certain point.

    The internet became an important source for families to use. Household could look up recipes, how to do certain things and some ways of contact with other people. This allowed households to manage their time by making it quicker to reach sources of information. It also gave them a source of entertainment.

    The VCR was used to record shows families couldn't watch them when they were on TV. This allowed families to manage their time doing something else while using the VCR to record their show when they have time for entertainment.

    While computers had been around for a few years, more and more people began to get personal computers in 1977. Having a personal computer allowed households have access to some internet and gave families a form of entertainment.

    DVRs were basically VCRs but easier. Not only was it better quality but households no longer had to use tapes to record their shows, it was all within a few presses of a button. Saving household time and allowing them to manage their time and still see their favorite shows.

    Flash drives gave households the ability to take their computer information else where, such as work. This allowed work to get done not only at their job but also at home. It also gave students the ability to bring homework and papers back and forth. Flash drives allowed the household to manage and save what they were doing on each computer.

    While cell phones were used before the 21st century it wasn't until then that they really took off. Cell phone quickly became more and more popular in the 21st century. This allowed households to be on the go and still in touch. This allowed families to have the option to contact other family members and manage time or plan things.

    The iPod allows families to listen to music and be entertained while doing and managing other things.

    Bluetooth helped people talk on the phone, plan, communicate and manage while having two hands to do something else. Bluetooth was made to assist in multitasking.

    Skype was important to managing households for example if a family had a child go off to school, this allowed for the family at home talk to the student and see their face while talking. So Skype allowed households to manage keeping in contact with its members and basically doing it virtually face to face.

    Facebook is a way that families have been able to manage their connections, not only with each other but also other friends and family.
  • YouTube

    YouTube
    YouTube was used mainly for entertainment. This allowed individuals and families to watch and share videos with one another. YouTube also allowed for individuals and families to share videos they may want to share.
  • Nintendo Wii

    The Wii helped parents in households give their children something fun to do. But unlike any other game system at this time, the Wii provided some physical activity for the players. This helped parents manage children's playing time and physical activity.
  • iPhone

    iPhone
    The iPhone in 2007 was one of the first touch smart phones. This phone was made for more than just talking. This phone allowed individuals and families the options of calendars, internet, etc. on their phones. These phones could help individuals and families organize, plan and manage things within a household all at the touch of the screen.
