Became known as “father of forensic toxicology” 1836 James Marsh used chemical processes to determine arsenic as the cause of death in a murder trial. 1854 San Francisco used photography for criminal identification. It's the first to do it in the US. 1879 Bertillon developed system of anthropometry. 1887 . “A Study in Scarlet” a Sherlock Holmes novel was published which raised interest in forensics 1892 Galton published a book “Finger Prints” 1902 Landsteiner discovered blood could be grouped into types 1903 NY state prison system implemented fingerprint identification. 1909 First forensic school of science was founded by Archibald Reiss in Switzerland. 1910 Locard began a rudimentary police laboratory which led to forming the Institute of Criminalistics 1923 Vollmer created the oldest forensic lab in the U.S. 1929 Osborn published “Questioned Documents” 1932 FBI organized a forensics lab under directorship of President J.
