    Comenius wrote Orbis Pictus for children studying Latin and science, which was published in 1658. He also directed the curriculum reforms in Holland and Sweden and organized a model school in Hungary. His Great Didactic was his most important theoretical treatise.

    He established a free school to educate the poor. In 1803, he wrote Improvements in Education. In 1818, Lancaster helped to established the first model school in Philadelphia to train teachers to implement his system.

    Friedrich Froebel published The Education of Man. His methodical system consisted three aspects: games and songs, construction, gifts and occupations. He grasped the value of socialization and became the first educator to treat socialization as the basic teaching method.

    The Catalogue of Educational Motion Pictures was the first educational film catolog published by George Kleine in New York, U.S. in 1910. There were 330 pages and 1,065 titles classfied under 30 main topics included in this catalog.     In the 1950s, the television was used as a medium for delivering instruction. A large number of televison stations were established. Presentation of Instructional programms changed the role of teachers. "The teaching role has been ascribed to public broadcasting since its origins. Especially prior to the 1960s, educational boradcasting was seen as a quick, efficient, inexpensive means of satisfying the nation's instructional needs." (Hezel, 1980)

    The first microcomputers (PCs) are developed. In 1960s, mainframes and microcomputers were introduced to the schools. Computers used in education for computer assisted instruction (CAI), which was to help students with skills.
