  • Herman Hollerith

    Herman Hollerith builds a punch card system to determine the 1880 census, doing it in just 3 days. Government saves about an extra $5 million. He establishes his company, conclusively will be IBM.
  • ENIAC

    ENIAC
    Pennsylvania professors, John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert, build the ENIAC (Electronic Integrator and Calculator) It filled a 20ft. by 40ft. room with 18,000 vacuum tubes.
  • UNIVAC

    UNIVAC
    Mauchly and Presper leave their University to go build the UNIVAC. It was the first commercial computer to for business and goverenment apps.
  • Apple 1

    Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak start Apple computers on April 1. It was the first computer to have single-circiut board.
  • Acorn

    First IBM personal computer called Acorn comes out. It has an INtel chip, 2 floppy disks, with an optional color monitor.
  • Apple Lisa

    Apple's Lisa is the first personal computer with GUI. It had a drop-down menu and icons.
  • Dot-com

    On March 15, the first dot-com was registered. It was years beofre the World Wide Web became the beginning of Internet history. More than a 2 years later, there were 100 dot-coms registered.
  • HTML

    Tim Berners-Lee who was a researcher at CERN, in Geneva, made HTML ( HyperText Markup Language). This was giving rise to the World Wide Web.

    The term Wi-Fi becomes part of the computer language. People or users were able to now connect to Internet without wires.
