    Tension was growing between pro-slavery and anti- slavery people so to keep the peace the congress decided to make a two-part compromise, made during march 3, 1830 also made by Henry Clay allowing Missouri's request. Also making Maine a free state. Also they drew an imaginary line across the former Louisiana territory establishing a boundary between free and slave regions. This impacts history because it forestalled the tension between pro and anti slavery citizens and slaves.

    Wilmot was a representative for Pennsylvania proposed a ban on slavery in all Mexican territories bill only passed the house but not the senate the southerners viewed it as an attack on slavery in the south from the north. He introduced the proviso on August 8, 1846. It cause tension to grow between southerners and northers once again.

    On March 1857, the Supreme Court claimed their decision, which had been brought before the court by Dred Scott, a slave who had been with his owner in a free state before returning to the slave state of Missouri. Scott said that being in a free state made him free. But the court made it illegal for slave to take U.S. citizenship, and because of this slaves were not allow to get a penations anymore for freedom. The Dred Scott case angered abolitionists and worsening North-South tensions.
