  • Battle of Louisbourg

    During the Seven Years War, Louisbourg was a very important military fort for the French. Although they were able to defend it in 1757, in 1758 the British launched an all out offensive attack against the fort that ended in the French losing the fortress due to an inadequate amount of naval support. This was a major turning point in the war as the British used the captured fort to house their troops before their Siege of Quebec with caused the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
  • Fall of Quebec/ The Battle of the Plains of Abraham

    The Battle of the Plains of Abraham was a very important battle during the Seven Years War. The battle was fought with less then 10000 troops on both sides, and ended with a desisive British victory. Althought the British siege lasted around 3 months, that actual battle lasted only 15 minutes, with the commanders of both sides dying in combat. The British control of Quebec was the first step towards Britain's total contriol over New France.

    The Charlottetown Conference was a meeting originally planned to discuss the possibility of a merger of all the atlantic islands into one single entity. However, Ontario and Quebec also came to the meeting to ask whether or not the merger could include them as well. This meeting is what is said to have prompted Confederation.

    During a trip to Serbia, Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke to the Austria-Hungary throne, and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian terrorist. After this, the government of Austria-Hungary demanded that Serbia gave them some of their land to repay them. When they refused, Austri-Hungary declared war on Serbia, causing Russia, in an alliance with Serbia, to declare war on Austria-Hungary. Germany then declared war on Russia, and Britain (including Canada) and France had to declare war on Germany in

    The Battle of the Somme is considered the deadliest battle in British war-time history, adn although many men died in the fight it ended undecisive with neither country taking a significant amount of land. in total germany lost over 465000 troops while Britain lost around 419000.

  • Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles was one of many peace treaties created at the end of World War I. This particular Treaty ended the state of conflict between Germany and the allied powers. It was signed exactly 5 years after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand (the event that sparked the war) and held a few terms within it. The first was that Germany was to accept responsibility for starting the war, as well as they had to pay reparations to all the Entente countries affected by the war.
