  • World War I Officially Starts

    World World War I officially started on July 29th 1914, because Austria declared war on Siberia. During this war there were two alliances, the Triple Entente and Triple Alliance. On this day Franz Ferdinand and his throne wife were assassinated by a terrorist group called "The Black Hand". They killed them in hopes that they could gain power and control over Austria
  • Britain Declaring War on Germany, Canadas Involvment

    On August 5th Canada became involved in the war as military allies (Triple Entente). Within three weeks 32 000 voluntary soldiers came to help.
  • New Foundland Regiment

    the regiment evacuated on the 19th of December, after their attempt in capturing the Turkish Peninsula. This made casualties for both sides.
  • The Battle of Ypres

    In the battle of Ypres Germany introduced teargas in battle. It gave them a huge advantage that they failed to use. About 6 500 Canadians were killed, and one third became a causality. While the teargas harmed the other side it made them create gas masks to protect them in battle.
  • Battle of Sommes

    This battle was the first time Canada used tanks. This battle was an allied victory against the germans, though many were lost. Britain lost about 360 000, the French list 200 000, and the British empire lost about 64 000 soldiers.
  • Battle of Passchendaele

    This battle was a fight to the germans that were deadlocked for three years. This battle was said to be the Canadian limit, though the battle was victorious, 1 600 Canadians died or were injured, and for every 12 centimetre square of land gained, 2 soldiers died.
  • War reaching Canada

    On December 6th war reached Halifax, which led to Halifax doubling in size. That day a French boat carrying explosives crashed at the Halifax Harbour. This was called "Canadas worst disaster", the explosion was the biggest that man has created until atomic bombs were made in 1945. The explosion killed 1 600 people and injured thousands.
  • Influenza Flu

    The flu originated in Kansas with a avian origin. This pandemic killed 30 million people worldwide, and 5 000 Canadians. The flu affected mainly 5 year olds, people in their 20s - 40s, and people over 65 years.
  • The Last German Attempt

    On March 21st there was a series of German attacks because they wanted to take out the allies of the other side. On March 30th there was a battle in Moreuil which forced the Germans to withdraw, during this there were about 4 600 casualites.
  • Canadas 100 Days

    Canadas 100 days or the Hundred days Offensive was their successful push to Germanys surrender. This starts from the 8th of August to the 11th of November.
  • The Last Solider Dies - The Armistice

    November 11th at 10:58 am the private George Lawrence Price died in Belgium. Price died two minutes the armistice was took affect. Germany signed the armistice at 11 am. An armistice is a truce or an agreement where two parties do not fight for a set time period
  • The World War Ends

    On November 11th 1918, Germany surrendered and peace was made. the casualties during WWI were over 37 million, while 6 000 - 7 000 Canadians didn't come back to their family. the 17 000 that came back were wounded or affected negatively psychologically.

    Denial to Enter Canada, Komagata Maru
    On May 21st 1914 an eighteen day voyage was set out from India. This boat held 376 passengers. Canadian immigration favourited the europeans over the asians. They restricted routes, and used head tax to seep the asians out. When Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver nobody was allowed to leave, and were told to leave. After two months of being docked they were forced by the military back to India on July 23rd. Leaving 20 killed and 27 injured. Later, in 2016 Canada made an apology to this event.
