    MySpace was originally created to allow music artists to have a platform to promote their work. Although overtime it turned into a social platform that displayed many people's interests, personal stories and interests.

    Orkut was developed by a Google engineer, with the goal of relating people with similar interests. This was one of the first platforms that became popular in more than just the US. India and Brazil used this platform tremendously in 2008.

    Facebook was originally called Thefacebook, whose original purpose was to allow students at Harvard to connect and share photos digitally. It was an online university community. It quickly expanded to more than just college students.

    The idea of tagging or mentioning other on social media platform was first created by Twitter to create an automatic link. This was though to ensure that the person would see the content without directly sending it to them. Other platforms followed Twitters lead in the next few years.

    Snapchat's original purpose was to have their users be able to share photos and/or videos that would disappear quickly. The th9ought was that this would create a more private form of communication digitally.

    Stories were first created by SnapChat, but quickly added to many other apps including Instagram. Their main purpose were to allow users to post something temporary that would delete after 24 hours.

    TikTok was originally created in China that was similar to the lip-syncing app Musical.ly. The app reached many people worldwide. As it became more popular the app merged with other companies to expand their data.

    This viral challenge was started by Dolly, directed as a way to post 4 pictures of yourself on 4 different platforms to show that "get a woman who can do it all". The purpose was to show everyone that there can be more than one thing that you excel at.
