    Nobody really knows who won the battle of Hampton roads because there was no real winner. The Confederates took their ironclad, the Merimac, back to their base so there really was no winner because there was no surrender or total decimation.

    Flag Officer: Franklin Buchanan was one of the Confederate leaders that got injured because he was on a wooden ship. He said that the wooden ship would never be able to destroy the iron clads, even with all of the firepower from his 27 gun ship.
