Gun Control Legislation in the United States

  • National Firearms Act (NFA)

    The NFA imposes a statutory excise tax on manufacture and tranfer of certain firearms and it mandates the registeration of them as well.
  • Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968

    The Act set rules for obtaining wiretap orders in the United States, this was because of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and increasing public alertness to the lack of control over the sale and possession of guns.
  • Firearm Owners Proection Act (FOPA)

    This Act is a United States federal law that revisied many of the provision of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Undetectable Firearms Act

    The Undetectable Firearms Act makes it illegal to manufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer =, or recieve any type of firearm that can not be detected by a walk-through metal detector.
  • Gun-Free School Zones Act

    This is a Federal United States law that prohibits any unauthorized individual from knowingly possesing a firearm in what is believed to part of a school zone.
  • Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act

    This law was an Act of the United States Congress to provide federal backgrounf checks on firearm purchasers in the United States.
  • Federal Assault Weapons Ban expires

    The Federal Assault Weapons ban that was passed by the U.S. Congress on September 13, 1994 it prohibited manufacturing for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms, which are defined as "assault weapons" and certain ammunition magazines that are defined as "large capacity." This was a ten year banned which expired on September 13, 2004.
  • Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act

    The Act prevents firearm manufacturers and dealers from being held laible for negligence when crimes are committed using their products. These manufacturers and dealers though, can be held laible for damages resulting in defective products, breach of contract, criminal misconduct, and other actions which they are directly responsible.
  • Federal Assault Weapons Ban

    The Federal Assault Weapons ban was formally titled Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act prohibited manufacturing for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms, which are defined as "assault weapons" and certain ammunition magazines that are defined as "large capacity." This Act expired on September 13, 2004.
