  • 1940

    Although the city of Atlanta only increased by 10%, the suburbs saw the most growth in the region. College Park increased by 77 percent, Marietta by 139 percent, and Forest Park by 360 percent in the 1940s! Atlanta has become the Southeast's transportation hub, with year-round pleasant weather. Furthermore, Georgian workers were not represented by a union, which meant they might be paid less. This was due to the state's cheap taxes, which resulted in increased earnings for enterprises.
  • 1943-1947

    Ellis Arnall served governor from 1943-1947.He brought in dynamic changes that transitioned the state from rustic to one of the foremost dynamic states within the South. Representative Arnall brought forward various dynamic plans that made a difference progressed the state into success.
  • 1945

    In 1945, Georgia had 226,00 farms at about an average of 105 acres. This was right after WW2. It impacted Georgia because they were just getting out of the great depression.
  • 1947

    The Georgia-Pacific is one of the world’s top producers. The produce goods such as tissue, pulp, and packaging goods etc. In 1947, the company purchased a lumber plant on the Pacific coast.
  • 1950

    In 1950, Georgians started to lose their jobs. 28,000 Georgians stopped farming, while 100,000 farms were being lost. Men who had fought in the war got benefits and they took advantage of it, causing them to leave farms.By this time, more people worked in the industry and manufacturing jobs than they had worked in farms.
  • 1952

    Atlanta quadrupled in area from 37 to 128 square miles in 1952, resulting in a 100,000-person increase in population. Ford Motors, General Motors, and Lockheed Martin opened new factories in Atlanta, bringing more jobs and people to the area. Atlanta's Progressive Mayors paved the way for the city to become the international transportation powerhouse it is today.
  • 1961

    William Hartfield was the mayor of atlanta for 6 years(1937-1961). During his terms, Atlanta’s population continued to grow. The population grew from 100,000 people to 1 million. That is a lot of growth! He also worked with a group of people to help deal with the racial issues.
  • 1962

    Ivan Allen Jr became mayor after Hartsfield, and served from 1962 – 1970. He built Atlanta’s Memorial Arts cultural center.He also built Atlanta’s Civic Center. Lastly he brought in Atlanta’s three major professional sports franchises: the Braves, the Hawks, & the Falcons.
  • 1969

    By 1969, the state had less than 67,000 ranches, but they were bigger than already. Ranchers proceeded to decrease the number of crops they developed and numerous turned to raising poultry and livestock. The uprooted cultivate laborers proceeded to move into the bigger cities seeking out for work. Numerous finished up working in fabricating employments that included handling rural items. Atlanta's economy proceeded to take off amid the post-war a long time.

    In 1970, Agricultural changes with farmers started happening. Farmers lessen the amount of cotton they grew and started growing other things. They started to switch and grow livestock, poultry, and etc. ⅓ of the farm was totaled by poultry.
