    Two boats filled with armed Pinkerton Detectives attempt to land at Homestead to guard Carnegie's steel plant. Striking steel workers prevent the boats from landing. During the 14-hour battle, 7 steel workers and 3 detectives are killed.

Even though he was stabbed several times in the neck and torso, Frick survives and refuses to get medical treatment until the end of his normal workday.
