During these 5 years, Khan and his army attacked many parts of the Chinese Empire. A famous technique of the Mongols was to make it look like they were leaving to get the enemy's guard down, and then attack them while they were still vulnerable. Many died of starvation and accidentally being killed by their own army; these events eventually led up to the Mongols capturing what is now Beijing.
