    Wilhelm states in this document that he cannot accept the crown of the national assembly because they have no power to crown someone and they offered Wilhelm something not of his beliefs.
  • Letter to Minister von Manteuffel

    Since the policy of Vienna, Germany is too small for both Prussia and Austria, as stated. Both Prussia and Austria "will both plough the same disputed acre". Except, Austria is the only one allowed to be taken from or added to.

    Prussia says they had to avoid severely damaging Austria because Austria would then join forces with their enemies and come back for revenge. Prussia took it easy and now said they could be friends instead of temporary adversaries.

    The war between Austria and Prussia was not caused over political opinion or because its existence was being threatened. Prussia called itself the dominant and called upon and strong enough to assume the leadership of the German races.

    King Wilhelm was called by the German princes and free cities to assume the crown. Wilhelm says he is to protect the rights of the Empire and its members and to protect the independence of Germany.
