After the Geneva Accords Vietnam split into two countries at the seventeenth parallel. The north was lead by the Viet Minh backed Ho Chi Minh while the south was lead by the US backed Ngo Dinh Dien. Picture Link

The USS Maddox positioned in the Gulf of Tonkin was attacked a few times which lead to this resolution which allowed for the US to make whatever moves to stomp out VC activities in order to keep South Vietnam safe. Picture Link

In response to more attacks on US troops and property the United States begins Operation Rolling Thunder in order to destroy North Vietnamese trasnportation and industry. Picture Link

The first United States combat troops arrive in Vietnam signaling a rise in commitment to the conflict. By the end of the year the fighting would significantly increase and the troop count would soar to 200,000. Picture Link

The longest war in US history ends with more than three million serving in it. The death toll nearly reached sixty thousand and the injured counted atleast a hundred and fifty thousand. Not to mention a thousand troops that were unaccounted for. Picture Link
