The voting requirements in the early American Colonies were to be an Adult Male that owned property and to be an active member of the church. This meant you had to attend church every week not just sometimes.

The Pilgrims came to America for religious freedom. They came to America on the Mayflower and settled in Plymouth Massachusetts. They were also tolerant of other religions and were the people who basically started Thanksgiving.

If you didn't believe what the Puritans did then you would be banished. there were two famous people who were banned from Massachusetts. they were Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams. Anne Hutchinson was banished because she questioned what the bible said.

Roger Williams was banished from Massachusetts Bay because he wanted to separate the Church and State. Roger Williams also went on to found Rhode Island.
