Thomas Auld's wife, Sophia Auld starts to teach Frederick how to read. She stops teaching him because of her husband's influence on her, but Frederick keeps learning with the help of white children. -

Colonel Lloyd dies, and Frederick, being property, returns to be appraised. He was given to Mrs. Lucretia, his master's daughter, and was sent back to Baltimore. -

Frederick was in the hands of a master who was not born a slaveholder but made a slaveholder. Frederick's treatment was abysmal, and the slaves weren't given enough to eat. -

Frederick was sent to Mr. Covey after he let master auld's horse run away and chased it. Mr. Covey was known as having an effect on slaves, making them brutes. -
Frederick runs away from Covey
Frederick was fanning wheat when he fell ill. Mr covey kicked him and told him to get back to work, then he ran away to complain to his master. His master sent him back the next day. -
Frederick is employed to Mr. Freeland
Frederick was employed and moved three miles from St. Michaels. Mr. Freeland was a kind man and gave the slaves enough to eat. Frederick started a sabbath school to teach the other slaves how to read. -
Frederick's plans to escape are thwarted.
Frederick and his group of slaves suspected of trying to escape are captured and taken to prison. Frederick's old master Hugh Auld decides to take frederick into his custody, and he moves back to Baltimore. -
Frederick escapes to freedom
