  • Birth of Frederick

    Birth of Frederick
    Frederick Agustus Washington Bailey is born to his slavemother, Harriet Bailey. He was born in 1818. His father was a white man. It was often rumored that his father may have been his master, Aaron Anthony. He had three older siblings at this time named Perry, Sarah, and Eliza Bailey.
  • Early Childhood

    Frederick is sent to live with his with his grandmother ,Betsy Baily. His grandmother lived on Holme Hill Farm. During his early chilldhood, he scarcely sees or visits his mother. The few visits he had with his mother were short. His mother woulld come llate at night and be gone long before he awoke.
  • Death of Fred's Mom and Baltimore

    In 1826 Frederick's mom dies. Without very much time to to greive over the death of his mother, Fred is sent to live in Baltimore. There he begins to work for Hugh Auld and his wife Sohpia. Later on in the year, Aaron Anthony dies. Frederick then becomes the property of Thomas Auld, Aaron's son-in-law.
  • Back to Baltimore

    Frederick is sent back to Baltimore to work for Hugh and Sophia. Sophia,Hugh's wife, does not see Frederick as a slave but, as a child. She teaches him the Alphabet and starts to teach him how to read and write. Hugh soon finds out about this and puts an end to Frederick's further education from Sophia. He does this in belief that learning will make slaves more rebellious. Frederick however, continued to learn to read and write on his own.

    Frederick is eventually sent to St.Micheal's maryland. Here, he secretly teaches other slaves how to read and write. He teaches a few slaves fom the plantation and a few from nearby plantations as well. Evey one who can seizes the opportunity. Things go smoothly until Auld finds out and ends the lessons.
  • Douglass Fights Back

    Douglass Fights Back
    Fredereick Douglass is eventually sent to Edward Covey to work as a field hand. Here he is subjected to several beatings by Covey, commonly known as the "Slave Breaker". After a month or so, Frederick fights back. He finds the courage within him to stand up. Thereafter Covey never beats him again and does not have him killed or arrested in fear of losing his record.
  • If at first you dont succeed, try, try again!

    Frederick and a group of friends plot an escape. Before he began planning, hetaught them how to read and write. As soon as they obtained the knowledge of how bad slavery really was, they all desired freedom feircely. The mornig before the set afternoon to escape, they had been caught and thrown into jail. Frederick felt bad beacause everyone looked up to himbut, he faced his defeat with pride.
  • His Other Half

    On September 15,1838, Frederick Douglass marries Anna Marrie. He met her through joining a program through called the East Baltiomore Mental Improvement Society. She was a house-keeper working in the building. The two newly weds take off north after being married by former Maryland slave, James W. C. Pennington.
  • Moving On

    After the death of his wife for 40 years Douglass goes into a deep depression. He then remarries a white woman named Helen Pitts. Helen was his secretary when he was the recorder of deeds. This interacial marriage causes despute among his family,friends, and associates. Nevertheless, they remain faithful and loving to each other.
  • The Fall of a Great Leader

    The Fall of a Great Leader
    Frederick peaks at the National Council Meeting of Women in Washington. After the meeting he explains the meeting to his wife. During his explanation, he has sudden heart failure. This inccident killed Frederick Agustus Washington Bailey Douglass. Though he is long gone, his legacy lives on forever and always.
