  • Birth

    Born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, a slave, in Tuckahoe, Talbot County, Maryland. His mother is a slave, Harriet Bailey. His father is a white man, rumored to be his master, Aaron Anthony. He had three older siblings, Perry, Sarah, and Eliza. Now named Frederick Douglass.
  • Plantation on Wye River

    In 1824 Frederick Douglass was moved to another plantation on Wye River. When he is moved over there he lives with his siblings Perry, Sarah, and Eliza. He visits his mother sometimes when allowed to, but only for about a hour before she has to leave. He did not reconize his brothers and sisters. He barely new them.
  • Bad Year

    In 1826his mother dies ,but he doesnt have much emotion to when it happens becasue he felt as if she were a stranger who had passed away. Douglass is then sent to Baltimore to live with Hugh Auld. Later on his master Aaron Anthony dies a year later that same year and is passed on to Thomas Auld and becomes his property. He is then sent back to Hugh Auld.
  • Education

    Frederick never went to scool like us. Hugh Auld's wife, Sophia, taugt him to read and write for a short time. Hugh Auld found out and put an end to it. Then he just started reading everything he could. He got little boys in his neighborhood to teach him as well.
  • The Fight

    Mr. Covey was mean and had a reputation for breaking slaves in. Frederick resolved to fight Mr. Covey and did so for over 2 hours. Mr. Covey never laid a hand on him again in the next 6 months that he was living there. This was a turning point as it revived his desire to be free. The fight was also not reported because Mr. Covey thought that it would ruin his reputation.
  • Failed Escape

    Frederick and a few other slaves planned for a escape. The did this for a month. When the day came, the police came and arrested the pack. Someone had told the owner. Frederick was in jail for 8 months.
  • The Escape

    Frederick finally broke free from slavery. His plans worked this time. He got to New York then moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts. There he got married to Anna. He had 5 children.
  • Free

    He joins the Anti-Slavery conventions. Later, he joins the "North Star", a anti-slavery newspaper. Frederick Douglass takes over the North Star. He also changes the name to "Frederick Douglass's Paper," it is the new anti-slavery newspaper.
  • Last Address

    1894, January delivers his last great address, "Lessons of the Hour." A powerful burst of his old-time fury against lynch law in the South. This speech was emotional. He talked about how he was against the lynching law. They say that this was his last great address "speech" because he died a few years later.
  • Death

    In Washingtom D.C. he goes to a meeting for the National Council of Women and speeks with them. He then finishes the meeting a goes to his house. As he returns home in the evening he talks about the meeting to his wife. When explaining it to her, he has a heart attack and dies.
