  • The birth of an African American slave

    When he was born his real name was Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey. His mother, Harriet Bailey was also a slave at the time. Fredrick didn't really know who his father was but, he believed that his father was really his white master, Aaron Anthony. But, his father/master still treated him horribly.
  • Sent to Baltimore

    Sent to Baltimore
    Frederick Douglass was sent to Baltimore to work for Hugh Auld and his wife Sophia. A few months later his master dies and is put in the hands of his master's son in law. Then, he comes to find that his mother is dead.
  • Sophia teaches his to read

    Frederick asks his mistress to teach him how to read. It suprises him when she says yes. She teaches him the alphebet and how to pronounce words. But, soon after, his master stops his wife from teaching him anymore. He says, " If you give a slave an inch, they will take a mile."
  • Borrows an identity paper from a sailor

    Frederick meets a freed, black sailor. He borrows his document papers so he looks like he's free. This is bad for both Frederick and the sailor. If they catch him the sailor can be beat and Frederick could be returned to slavery. But, they took the chance.
  • Frederick gets married

    He marries a women named Annna Murray. The ceremony is preformed by a black man named James Pennington. James is also an escaped slave from Maryland.
  • His first child is born

    Frederick has his first daughter Rostta Douglass on June 24, 1839. The mother is Anna Murray. She was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
  • Published his first newspaper

    Frederick Douglass publishes Douglass monthly and Frederick Douglasses paper. It warms the hearts of thousands of slaves and hits the hearts of some of the slave owners. It becomes a independent paper the year after. Also, is runs for four years.
  • Meets President Lincoln

    Douglass meets the president for the very first time. They discuss the poor treatment and low pay all African Americans and getting. Lincoln takes Fredericks ideas into consideration. But, this won't be the last time they see each other.
  • Anna Murray dies

    Douglass's wife dies at the age of 44. She suffered a stroke. This puts Douglass into depression for a long time. But, two years after, he marries a white women named Helen Pitts.
  • DEATH

    On Feburary 20, 1895 he was sent to a womans concil meeting and was given a standing ovation by the audience. Soon after, he arrived at his home. About an hour later, Frederick had a heart attack. He was burried in Mount hope cemetery, New York. May his memory live on forever.
