The league announced it will lock the players out when the collective bargaining agreement(CBA) expires at midnight. The lockout begins at 12:01 am on July 1.

The players union sends a memo to the players supporting their wishes and plans to play overseas. 65 players take their talents overseas. Some of the notable players to do so are; Boris Diaw of the Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan Farmar of the New Jersey Nets, Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets, and Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs.

Things move in the wrong direction as the league announces that training camps are being postponed indefinitely. In addition all preseason games scheduled for Oct. 9-15 will be cancelled.

Some bittersweet news comes out of the NBA Labor talks. On the day training camps were supposed to start Derek Fisher announces they had just completed a, "very huge day" of talks.

After a day that started with such high expectations the players and oweners fail to reach an agreement on the split of basketball related revenue. The NBA announces they will cancel the entire 114- game preseason schedule.

Both sides meet with federal mediator, George Cohen. The two get the idea from the NFL who sat down with federal mediators in coming to their collective bargaining agreement.

Talks come to a grinding halt. David Stern announces all games through November 30th will be canceled.

There has been no significant progress made in creating a new deal. At this point in time the two sides have had 22 different sessions for a total of 148 hours.

The two sides come to a tentative agreement with a 66 game schedule in place.

The owners and players ratify a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement. Training camp and free agency are expected to begin on December 9th. The agreement officially ends the 161 day lockout.
