Chedianne

  • First Words

    Chedianne has been a very alert baby girl. Her eyes would always wonder about whenever someone was talking or if she heard a strange sound. At my mother's 51st birthday party i witnessed her first words. At 11 months, she shouted, 'mommy Chloe', which is my mothers puppy while pointing at it. By the end of their first year they are able to understand more words then speak and around their first birthday they are able to speak one or two words. (pg. 157)
  • Toilt Training

    The bigest challenge was toilet training. She started to show signs of readiness at 28 months. The readiness to start toilet training usually occurs between 18-30 months, but children often still continue to have accidents after that age. There are various signs to depict if a toodler is ready to toilet train; regualr bowel movements occuring at about the same time each day and an increased anticipation of the event expressed through looks or words were hers
  • Self Recogniiton

    Peek-a-boo has always been one of Chedianne's favorite game to play with her fahter and i. At ge 17months she developed self-recognition, which accroding to Arnett is, ' the ability of babies to identify themselves in the mirror as one's self pg. 203. It helps to know that babies are mentally sound, and improves their mental development. It occurs mbetween 15-18 months of age. She would sit infront of the mirror and do silly faces and laugh with herself. Chedianne has alot of fun in the mirror
  • Motor Skills

    From birth Chedianne was a tough baby, she started crawling very early and demonstrated excellent motor skills at 3 1/2 years. She would climb the stairs with no assistance. Enjoyed kicking balls outside with my nephews. The manner in which she kicked the ball was remarkable. At age 3-6 children are able to increase their running speed and the ability to stop suddenly or change direction. p.g 237
  • Jealousy

    When Chedianne was 3 years we had a second baby girl. She was excited during my pregnancy but after i gave birth she became jealousy of the attention we gave her sister. According to pg. 268, 'from the outset, young children expressed love as well as jealousy toward their younger siblings. In a study done by Whiting and Edward in 1988, jealousy was recognized as a common response to the birth of a youngrer sibling. She would yell, cry and throw tantrums to get our attention.
  • Classification

    At age 5 Chedianne enjoyed laying her blocks down according to size and color. Classification helps to develop reasoning skills, and also helps in acquisiiton and ordering of information from understanding. As stated by Arnett pg. 242, 'this develops between ages 4-7 years when young children have the ability to comprehend that objects can be part of more than one cognitive group.'
  • Witness First Arguement

    My partner and i were getting into arguements a bit often and Chedianne witnessed it. She blamed herself for our outburst and began to disobey and retaliate towards us. We enforced more love and attention and confirmed that she was not the cause of the problems. Bowlby's theory of emotional and social development, focusing on the crucial importance of the infants relationship with their primary caregiver pg. 168
  • Time Out

    Although Chedianne was a sweetheart, she did disobey us a few times and we used a form of punishment called timeout to keep her in check. It is a punishment used to modify children's misbehavior which involves temporarily separating the child from activities or from others for a few minutes. She left her homework incomplete, lied to me about it and went to play outside. A child is to sit quielty in a chosen place for a short period of time to help modify behavior, pg. 263
  • Social Comparism

    Chedianne started to demonstrate social comparism at age 10, when she copmares her ability to read 2 levels above her grade level and able to maintain straight A's. This is the process in which children determine their personal and social woth based on how they describe themselves in relation to others as stated on pg. 312. It usually begins between ages 6-7 and motivates good behavior in children.
  • Reinforcement

    Chedianne helps out alot around the household and enjoys learning and trying new things. We never discouraged her, and often use reinforcement to help encourage her to do her math problems since she did not really like maths. It is an important concept in operant conditioning and the learning process, which gives motivation.
  • Clique

    Chedianne has always been an outgoing child and it continued throughout her growing up. She had many friends from childhood and kept alot of them. A clique isn situations in which small groups of friends that are familiar to each other create a regualr social group, and sort out things together.pg. 376. Its very healthy because it helps build socializing skills.
