Hamilton had the opportunity to organize a an economic policy that would help the nation pay off it's debts. Alexander pushed for the type of government that he wanted and he was a strong supporter of national power. He didn't believe that the government was big enough and he didn't trust the people so he tried to develop the American Economy. (Washington)

The Congress finally approves Hamilton's plan by a controversial vote. The south did not want to pay back the north so Hamilton made a deal with them. he told them that if they helped his debt plan then he would gain northern support. With this, he could make a new plan to put the nation's capital in the south. (Washington)

The Federalists opposed the split in America, but Jefferson's supporters viewed the Revolution as an extension to the previous American Revolution. They cheered for the new government not run by a king. (Washington)

Washington and Hamilton agreed that it would be best if they didn't get into another war with Great Britain so they sent Chief Justice John Jay to London to negotiate an agreement with the British. Britain went along, and called it 'Jay's Treaty', and they agreed to leave the forts occupied in the Northwest Territory. (Washington)

The Whiskey Rebellion followed the path of Shay's Rebellion and the protests brought by the Stamp Act. They closed courts and attacked the tax collectors, Washington and Hamilton tried to stop the Rebellion. They used this to demonstrate the power that the United States government had, Hamilton said that the government can't be established unless it proved that it has a strong military. (Washington)

The American officials met up with secret agents that were sent by the French foreign minister and the agents only identified as X, Y, and Z. They were trying to enforce a bribe of $250,000 and a loan the the French of 10 million before the Americans could meet with the French foreign minister. This outraged and became the XYZ affair. Since they couldn't make up, this began a naval war and both sides fired on each others ships. (Adams)

Adams gained a lot of popularity because of how tough he was during the XYZ affair. He angered many Federalists while trying to solve the naval war with France peacefully. He sent another diplomatic mission to France and the mission calmed the tension between the United States and France. (Adams)

The candidates didn't make any speeches or statements in 1800. Their campaigns were conducted through newspapers, pamphlets, and other sources. The election was nasty, newspapers for Jefferson were saying that Adams was a monarchist and portrayed him to be an enemy to their people. (Adams)

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 created a process where they call lands from the West and they could be called states. This extended to the Mississippi River through a federal land policy. (Jefferson)

The Judiciary Acts of 1789 formed a national court system including three circuit courts and thirteen district courts that all went to the Supreme Court. Right before Jefferson stepped into presidency, Congress passed the Judiciary Acts of 1801. Many members that were initiated with Adams were trying to reduce Jefferson's chance to appoint judges to the Supreme Court. (Jefferson)

Lewis and Clark set goals and their goals were to search for river routes that lead to the western ocean, meet the Native Americans that live in that territory, and collect information about the region's natural resources. In late 1805, they reached the Pacific Ocean and headed back east by September 1806. Their two year and four month long journey was a success in filling in details of the ands of the west. Everyone was very mad with what had been going on and Jefferson thought that they should be punished. Congress passed the Embargo Act of 1807 for Jefferson's choice of punishment using an economic weapon against the British and the French. Both, Britain and France weren't really impacted by this movement due to the growth in their trade. (Jefferson)

Jay's Treaty expired in 1805 and by then, then Europeans were back at war with each other. The French war ships interfered with Americas trading with the British and the British interfered with Americas trade with the French. The British took American soldiers against their will and made them serve in their navy. The British ship, the 'Leopard', attacked the U.S. ship, the USS 'Chesapeake' in 1807 and caused 21 casualties. (Jefferson)
