  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The British defeated the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. Despite their loss, the inexperienced colonial forces inflicted significant casualties against the enemy, and the battle provided them with an important confidence boost.
  • Battle of Brandywine

    General Sir William Howe and General Charles Cornwallis launch a full-scale British attack on General George Washington and the Patriot outpost. Americans were able to slow the advancing British, they were soon faced with the possibility of being surrounded. Surprised and outnumbered, Washington ordered his men to abandon their posts and retreat.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Turning point in the North. American forces stopped Burgoyne, ending Britain's campaign to cut off New England. Helped convince France to join America.
  • Valley Forge

    Washington and his soldiers endured harsh winters outside Philadelphia at Valley Forge. Washington and other officers drilled and disciplined. Washington's men were stronger after the winter.
  • Battle of Charlestown

    After a siege that began on April 2, 1780, Americans suffer their worst defeat of the revolution. The unconditional surrendering of Major General Benjamin Lincoln to British Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton and his army of 10,000 at Charleston, South Carolina.
  • Battle of Camden

    The Battle of Camden in South Carolina was a lopsided victory for the British during the American Revolutionary War.Nearly 2,000 Patriots killed or taken prisoner and heavy losses of artillery, Gates was removed from command and replaced by Nathanael Greene.
  • Battle of Kings Mountain

    During the American Revolution, Patriot irregulars under Colonel William Campbell defeat Tories under Major Patrick Ferguson at the Battle of King’s Mountain in South Carolina.Unwilling to surrender to a “band of banditti,” Ferguson led a suicidal charge down the mountain and was cut down in a hail of bullets. After his death, some of his men tried to surrender, but they were slaughtered in cold blood.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    American troops under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan routed British forces under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton. The Americans inflicted heavy casualties on the British, and the battle was a turning point in the war’s Southern campaign.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    The Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina, on March 15, 1781, proved pivotal to the American victory in the American Revolutionary War. The British suffered significant troop losses during the battle. Afterward, Cornwallis abandoned his campaign for the Carolinas and instead took his army into Virginia.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Cornwallis marched to Yorktown, on the coast of Virginia, to wait for resupply from the British navy. The French navy captured to coast at Yorktown. Cornwallis and his 8,000 troops surrendered.
