Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery. She return to the legal slavery states many times to help rescue other slaves. She took them to the northern free states and Canada. It was dangerous to be a runaway slave. There was a bounty offered for her capture because she was a fugitive slave herself, and she was breaking the law in slaves state by helping other slaves escape. -
The Fugitive Slave Act was established
It is said that all escaped slaves were being capture, to be returned to their masters and that official and citizens of free states have to cooperate in this law. If a runaway slave went to the South to the North States, the North would have to send them back to South. -

Abraham Lincoln was elected was elected the 16th president of the United States. He fought against the Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, and John C. Breckrinridge of the Southern Democracts, and John Bell of the new constitutional Union Party. He was the first president of Republician Party. -

It started of by seven slave states in the Lower South reagion of the United States whose economy was mainly on agriculture, particully cotton, and a plantation system of production. It was relied on slave labor. The South wanted slaves but the North was against it. This was the reason why they made United States in two separate states. -
