Farm Bill Timeline

  • Agricultural Adjustment Act

    Agricultural Adjustment Act

The AAA was signed by President Franklin Roosevelt on May 12, 1993. The goal of this particular law was to limit crop production, refinance mortgages with terms that are helpful for struggling farmers, and to reduce stock numbers. George Peek was initially heading this act.
During this act, farmers were paid to destroy their crops and livestock. In the long run, the AAA farmers were paid to not plant as much cotton, corn, wheat, and other staple crops!
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act (1938)

    Agricultural Adjustment Act (1938)

This is the same act that was implemented in 1933, just revisited in 1938. This act came in as an alternative for the farm subsidy policies and also helps to maintain self sufficient supply during the low production periods. The AAA also helped the farmers by reducing the staple crops as it did back in 1933.
  • Food and Agriculture Act of 1965

Food and Agriculture Act of 1965

The Food and Agriculture Act was claimed to start a new chapter in the history of American farming. It was said that that the act was supposed to let the American farmer use all of his skills to produce agricultural abundance to in return get a reward.
It was also used to bring every American a plentiful food supply at the lowest cost and to avoid costly surpluses of commodities that were not needed.
  • Agriculture and Consumer Act of 1973

Agriculture and Consumer Act of 1973

The Agriculture and Consumer Act was created to limit the payments for commodities to $20,000 under the Agriculture Act. I could not find any more information on this bill, but I chose to include it for that reason.
I choose to believe that this bill is just as important as the rest and that there needs to be more information put out there about it.
  • Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990

Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990

The Foo, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990 made it so that comprehensive framework within the Secretary of Agriculture would administer agricultural and food programs for 1991 to 1995.
This act was also created to extend and revise agricultural price support and its related programs, provide agriculture export, resource conservation, farm credit, and agricultural research and related programs, and to ensure consumers and abundance of food and fiber at a low cost.
