Low Cost Facilities Project Timeline for a Maker Space

  • Create Physical Space

    Clear carousel to create a table top work space for the students. Move computers to the iPad table. Move the magazines to create a place to store Maker Space supplies. Clear the dry erase board of papers to give students a place to brainstorm ideas.

    Resource for Science Inquiry Lessons with Picture Books Begin looking for lessons that would support the curriculum. Compile a "Needed Materials" list for the lessons.
  • Meet with Administrator

    Meet with Administrator
    Meet with administrators and evaluator to go over the idea of creating a Maker Space in the library. Explain that science lessons beg students to ask "I wonder" questions, leading to relevant research. Share timeline of the project and request permission to ask parents to donate needed supplies. These supplies tend to be odds and ends that most houses have and many can spare. These supplies can stored and used again, so more supplies will not be required the following year.

    Compose and send a letter to parents explaining the Maker Space movement, and request volunteers to donate time or materials.
