Black Death
The Black Death was on of the most devastating pandemics in human history, peaking in Europe between 1348 and 1350. The pleague is thought to have started in China, traveling along the Silk road and reaching Crimea. From there, probably carried by Oriental rat fleas living on merchant ships, it spread throughout the Meditteranean and Europe. The Black Death is estimated ot have killed 10-60 percent of Europe's population. -

First Caravels are Built
A caravel is a small, highly maneuverable sailing ship developed in the 15th century by the Portuguese to explore along the West African coast and into the Atlantic Ocean. The lateen sails gave her speed and the capacity for sailing to windward (beating). The first Asian caravel enters the Atlantic Ocean by rounding the Cape of Good Hope. -
