    After the civil war more and more ethic groups were starting to come to the U.S. The predominantly white citizens who were of European descent were against these groups coming. However, after the civil war they were required to accept them as part of their culture.
  • Birth of the KKK

    The KKK Was formed and its main objective was to discriminate against non white ethnic groups and make them feel unwanted. This was an overall movement in attempt to disturb minorities and try to slow or stop immigrants of non-white, (Catholic, jewish, and other minority groups) from coming to America.
  • 14th amendment

    • grants that all persons born or naturalized in the US are citizens and are guaranteed equal protection of the laws
  • Black Men were given voting rights

  • Chinese exclusion act - law to ban immigration based on race or nationality

  • Cultural Assimilation in the U.S.

    This was a form of cultural democracy that allowed for different cultural groups to determine what their heritage was and what traditions they are allowed to perform. They had the right to perform whatever they believed in. This helped cultural groups assimilate into United states culture

    This extended US citizenship to all Native Americans living in the US

    Grants amnesty to millions of individuals living in the US who entered the country before JAN 1, 1982.
