Compromise Of 1850
The compromise tarif was when people were fighting on wether the land aquired in the mexican war would be used as free or slave states.
The compromise: California enters the union as a free state and new mexico and utah would be voted on using (popular soverignity.) (which ever side has more votes is what it will become.) -
Lemmon V. New York
The supreme court case that was trying to decide that slaves that were brought to new york on traisit to texas were free or not.
Verdict.:
The slaves were in fact free'd when their virginia masters brought them through new york on transit to texas. -
Border Ruffians Invade "bleeding kansas"
The Border ruffians were a pro-slavery group that invaded kansas in order to try to make them accecpt slavery there. Kansas then became a free state as the anti slavery people fought back. -
Dred Scott V. Sandford Trial.
Dred scott's owner died and he was sent to the owners son who, lived in a free state so, he sued for freedom.
Verdict: He was rejected because african american slaves were not citizens,so inturn had none of our legel rights to even sue in the first place. He was rejected and was still a slave in a free state. -
Lincoln-Douglas Debates.
A series of 7 debates taking place between Aug 21- Oct 13. The main focus of these argueements were weather slavery should expand or be abolished completly. Abraham was a republican that didnt like black people, but he hated slavery even more so he reprasented the north. -
Ableman-Booth Case.
A supreme court case that said state courts could not overrule the descions of the federal court. The federal court was then given the power to have the final descision of cases. -
The Election Of Abraham Lincoln.
This is the day where abraham lincoln won with the lowest percentage in history. He was president for 8 years in a row and would be elected right when the country would go to war with itself. He would eventually abolish slavery alltogether.
