  • Sinking of Lusitania

    Sinking of Lusitania
    Germany had a blockade placed on them which resulted in Germany using u-boats to sink ships. A German u-boat sunk the Lusitania, and both the U.S. and Britain were outraged.
    There were U.S. passengers on the ship who were killed, which contributed to the U.S. entering the war.

    Zimmerman Note
    It proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico in the prior event of the U.S. entering WW1.
    U.S. land was offered to mexico.

    Trench warfare occurred when a revolution in fire power wasn't matched by similar advances in mobility.
    Troops were consistently protected from fire/ artillery.

    Symptoms of the disease are fever, nausea, aches, and diarrhea. Dark spots appear on the cheeks. Suffocation occurs from lack of oxygen as lungs filled with a frothy, bloody substance. 500,000 people died in the U.S. and about 20 million to 50 million worldwide.

    It was a statement given to congress by president Wilson declaring that ww1 was being fought for a moral cause and calling for peace in Europe
    The League of Nations was an international group created after the first world war to try to resolve international disputes.

    Espionage and Sedition Act
    It targeted those who interfered with the draft and those who publicly criticized the government.
    It violated the 1st amendment by taking away the freedom of the press to make the government look good.
    The Schenk vs US court case was a case where the supreme court ruled that the freedom of speech and protection afforded in the 1st amendment could be restricted if the words spoken or printed represented to society a clear and present danger.

    Treaty of Versailles
    It was one of the most important peace treaties the ended world war 1. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
    Outside of Europe, Germany lost all of its colonies. The country fortified 13% of its European territory and one-tenth of its population.
  • Women

    Women
    The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote and unified suffrage laws across the United States.
    Many women were recruited into jobs of men who had gone to fight in the war. New jobs were also created in factories.
