    Plessy vs. Fergouson
    On June 7, 1892, 30-year-old Homer Plessy was jailed for sitting in the "White" car of the Louisiana Railroad. Plessy deliberately sat in the white section and identified himself as black. He was arrested and the case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Plessy's lawyer argued that the Separate Car Act violated the Thirteenth and Fourteenth ammendments!

    In Williams v. Mississippi the Supreme Court upholds the voter registration and election provisions of Mississippi's constitution because they applied to all, they however disenfranchise the black, and the poor. They did this until the 1960s.

    Professor Carter Woodson and the Study of Negro Life and History begins publishing the Journal. This was the first journal published that focused on African Americans and their history. This matters because others started to become more educated on history and realized that people of color have a rich history as well.
