Paul Revere heard about this so he warned that the British were coming. Colonist formed a group called minutemen. The British were called redcoats. The Minutemen were outarmed and outnumbered. The first shot was known as the shot heard round the world. The redcoats won but at Concord Colonists won. #donotunderestimate

Americans sent troops near Boston to stop British from invading hills nearby the city. (Bunker and Breed Hill) Most of the battle was on Breed Hill. After 3 attacks the British won, but about a thousand men were wounded or killed. Even though the colonists lost the hill they learned that they need to train more to get a stronger group. #lostbutwonsomethingmoreimportant

The new US did not have a central government from after Britain rule so the Second Continental Congress continued to govern. They made the Articles of Confederation. The purpose was to create a unified government but it ended up being a failure because congress could make decisions, but had no power to enforce them. #failure

Washington and his troops made way to Valley Forge in the extremely cold winter. They were starved and were cold. They had sold all their things to the British. Since it was so severe, Marquis de Lafayette a rich French man supplied them. Martha Washington tended the sick and after the news about the harsh conditions were spread, Americans back home sent supplies. #smallpoxiskillingus

Before British could board ships in Chesapeake Bay the French fleet sailed into the bay and drove British ships out. The British surrendered and America won their independence. #lookatmenow

Representatives from the US and Britain signed a treaty in Paris. It stated that the US was a independent nation. Britain agreed to remove all troops from America and gave up some land. America agreed to pay all debts to Britain. They also agreed to let loyalists go instead of persecuting them. This ends conflict between them. #Letsbefriends
