    The Missouri Compromise was reached by Representative Henry Clay. This compromise made Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state. This compromise maintained balance between slave and free states.This event led to the war because it didnt please anyone.

    This lead to civil war because abolitionist were disobeying the rules.

    Compromise of 1850 1
    This compromise did many things for the union. One thing it did was admit California as a free state, which pleased the north, Also this compromise organized New Mexico and Utah as a territory thats open to slavery, which pleased the south. Another thing this comprmise did was it ended D,C, slave trade, slaves were no longer bought and sold here, Also a final thing this law did was that it had a strong fugitive slave law.     Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This was a bill made by Stephen Douglas a senator at the time. He wanted a railroad built to California. His bill included having two new territiories, Kansas and Nebraska. He left it up to settlers to vote to permit slavery. This upset the north but southerners were okay with it. This event led to war because it brought many people to Kansas that were not fit and had very different beliefs like the belief of slavery.

    This court decision made southerners and northerners mad because it was unjust and not fair. This may have led to the Civil War because it upset the southerners and northerners.
  • Dred Scott Case 1

    Dred Scott Case 1
    Dred Scott was a slave in Missouri. Scott traveled to Wisconsin with his slave owner, that state was a free state. While Scott arrived in Missouri he went to court and said his stay in Wisconsin made him a free man. The court decided that Scott could not sue for his freedom in a federal court because he was not a citizen. Also he could never become a citizen. Also the court rejected Scott's argument that his stay in Wisconsin made him a free man. <the rest is on next slide.>

    Election of 1860
    In the election of 1860 there were two compediters for the Democratic party. North and south had spilt on who they nominated. The north democratics wanted Stephen Douglas. The south democratics wanted John C. Breckinridge. But this president race was won by Abraham Lincoln. He won with 40% of the votes, all of which were from the north. Southerners thought that the south was know a minority section and they had no power. <the rest is on other slide.>

    This led up to the civil war because it made southerners angry with the north having power over who is in office. The south felt they were going to lose slavery which in their mind wouldnt make life worth living.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Attack on Fort Sumter
    The Attack on Fort Sumter was made by hotheads in Charleston, South Carolina. This attack went for 33 hours and no one was killed during the time. The defenders of the fort surrendered. There had been rebels that fired at the American flag, this made the north angry. The compromiseswere over and there was a divison between the union which led up to the Civil War.
