    In 1787 many people disagreed about how much power the federal government should have.The Northern states believed the federal government should have the power but the Southern states believed the states should have the power and thats how the Constituition came to be.

    During the Civil War was a tragic time but the events leading up to the Civil War was more hart pounding.
  • Differances began

    Differances began
    In 1800 southern states wanted to have the rights to nullify or cancel a law they thought was unconstitutional but the north disagreed.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    When Missouri was admitted as a slave state the Northeners were worried about the unbalance of slave/ non slave states. And during the administrarion, they chose/said they'd be a slave state. The southerners did not understand why Missouri got to choose whether or not they are a free/ or a slave state. So Henry Clay decided to draw an imaginary line down the USA.So the Northern states were free states and Southern states were slave states.

    When California was added as a free state as usual the south was not happy because if California was added as a free state that woud mean the North would have more power to the Congress. It also results in the 30-36 borderline being moved further down into southern territory. They also had to create a fugitive slave law to make Southerners more pleased, but they were still displeased about California's position. (The Fugitive Slave Law Means: That all slaves that escaped were taken to owners)

    Kansas /Nbraska Act
    Senator Clay impowered Kansas/Nebraska the descision to become a confederate (Slave) or union (Free) state. Kansas held a public vote whether or not they should be union or confeeratre. The union thought the vote was unfiar because people from otheer states got to vote for Kansas, this resulted in another vote for ONLY Kansas citizens to decide. The most voted option was union, resulting in the south being displeased in their choice.

    South was very angry at this point and north was electing a president.The south said that if they did not agree with the president they would no longer be a part of the United States.Abraham Lincoln was elected president and he was against slavery so the south was furious at the decision of Abraham Lincoln being president so as they had said southern states started to leave the United States.

    At the time Jefferson Davis was the president and the south wanted to have their own government and be independent and one by one southern states started to succeed from the United States. South Carolina was the first to leave and following South Carolina was Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida,and last but not least Texas.

    The attack of Fort Sumpter
    Fort Sumpter was a Southern fort and the Northerners had taken it over and the south got even more furious when that happened so the Rebs (southerners) started to shoot at Fort Sumpter with Yanks (Northerners) inside, but luckily no one lost their life during this battle that lasted for thirty four hours.
