    Included the fugitive slave act where it was now a crime to help a slave escape even in the north.
    Texas agrees to give ups its claim for New Mexico for 10 million and it got it's current day boarders. It also payed off all our debt.

    They chose whether they were a slave state or a free state by popular sovereignty
    There was a lot of violence and Kansas which led to the Democratic party losing support in the north, although it gained support in the south because they were pro-slavery.
    The republican party was created and it gained power from the non-slavery people.

    The Dred Scott decision ruled that people of African ancestry were not citizens and couldn't sue in the Federal Court for freedom and slaves were considered property.
    Also ruled the Missouri Compromise was not legal, they stated the government could not say if a state was slave or free.
    Caused anti-slavery voters to vote for Abraham Lincoln.

    His 1st decision was to make succeeding illegal but right as he was elected, North Carolina seceded.
    He also said he would give free land to the people in the west.
    First shots were fired at Fort Sumter after North Carolina wouldn't give it to the U.S.
