    The Nat Turners Slave Rebellion that spread fear in the south. It resulted in retaliation for the rebellion, even those not involved and it killed 60 people.
  • Compromise of 1850

    California would be admitted as a free state
    All other territories could decided when they applied for statehood if they wanted to be slave or free by Popular Sovereignty
    Texas agreed to give up its claims to New Mexico for $10 million and that let Texas pay off her debt and gave us our present day borders.
    This compromise included the Fugitive Slave Act and it was now a CRIME to help runaway slaves, even in the North and that made many people in the North very angry.

    The Supreme Court of 1957 ruled that people of African ancestry were not citizens and could not sue in Federal Court for freedom or anything else; slaves were considered as property
    It also ruled that the Missouri Compromise was not legal and that they stated the government cannot tell states they have to be slave or free. It resulted of angry anti-slavery voters voted for Roger B Taney for president in 1860

    The raid was on the Federal Arsenal.
    The raid on Harpers Ferry was trying to arm the slaves for a revolt against their owners.
    John Brown was captured during the anti-slavery revolt and hung after being convicted for conspiracy and treason.
