    The passing of this bill allowed slavery open in New Mexico, California became a free state, slave trade was Illegal in Washington DC, Texas got their bill paid from the wa but mostly the Fugitive slave law. With this new law a runaway slave would have to be brought back to their master even if they were in a free state.   • Harriet Beecher Stowe "Uncle Toms Cabin"

    The book Uncle Toms Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe was about a slaves life. This book caused much uproar since it was being banned in the south, which went agsinst the Bill of Rights. Since it being banned not everyone had the right to read it, slaves were not aloowed to read it because many believed it would start a rebellion. This book made it clear the difference between the north and south and, how the south thought they could censor everything to be able to to control the population

    The Dred Scott v. sandford case is about a slave who lives in Missouri who is suing his master for making him return even though he is in a free state. The ruling saying slaves are not citizen therefore they do not have to the right to sue. With this being said Free states felt that even though they were free they were allowing slavery making many people in the north upset with the south.

    John Brown lead his army of sins into Harper’s Ferry where they were hoping by taking over they could start a slave uprising. But due to poor planning no slaves joined after they captured Harper’s Ferry and they were soon surrounded by a group of angry townsmen. The south felt John Brown was martyr and. believed that his action directly went with the northern republicans. This caused growing hatred between the two really take form into action as the accuse John Brown with treason and was hung.
  • Election of President Lincoln

    Lincoln was elected president in 1860 running for the new republican party. The south did not agree with the republican party in how they would abolish slavery. The south said they would succeed if Lincoln became president forcing a last ditch effort to come to a compromise called the crittenden compromise. Lincoln said that he would not abolish slavery but the south wouldn’t listen. Because of this problem splitting the country in two.
