    Missouri Compromise of 1820

    Maine is admitted to the U.S as a free states and Missouri is admitted to the U.S as a slave state. Compromis draws invisible line thru the U.S, every new state South of the line would be a slave state. Every states north of that line would be a free state(only Missouri would be above the line.) Slaves would need to be brought back to the South if they escaped, even if they were in the North.

    Nat Turners Slave Rebellion

    A slave rebellion that spread free in the south. It killed 60 people. It resulted in retaliation for the rebellion even those not involved. Because of the rebellion of the slaves white people made the treatment to slaves even worse. ( slaves killed white slave owners then the slave owners killed the slaves.)
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850

    California got admitted as a free state. All other territories could decide when they wanted to be a free or slave states based on popular serveignity. Slave trade would become illegal. This compromise made included the fugitive Slave Act which made it a crime helping slaves who escaped to the north, Texas agreed to give up its claims to Mexico for 10 million. This ley Texas pay off her debt and gave us our border.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a book about the horrors of slavery. The south/pro-slavery people viewed this as a propaganda, something to convince people that slavery is bad.

    Nebraska was divided in half to 2 territories, Kansas ad Nebraska. Slavery would be decided by popular sovereignty. THis resulted in bleeding Kansas, which had a lot of violence. The Democratic Party lost support in the North but gained it in the South. Democrats were pro-slavery and the Republican party is created and is against slavery.
  • Dred Scott Decision 1857

    Dred Scott Decision 1857

    The Supreme Court if 1857 ruled that anyone that has African ancestry were not citizens and could not sue in Federal Court for freed or anything, SLaves were considered to be property. THe also ruled that the Missouri Compromise was illegal, and that the government couldn't tell the states if they were free or not. THis resulted to people who were anti-slavery to vote for Abraham lincoln in the future.

    John Brown held a rain on the Harper's Ferry, the purpose of this raid was because he was against slavery. Because John Brown did this he was captured during the revolt and was hanged after convicted for conspiracy and treason.,
