  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The compromise of 1850 was an attempt to limit conflict between the North and the South. It amended the fugitive slave act and abolished slave trade in Washington D.C. The northerners disagree with the compromise because of the fugitive slave act and the southerners were satisfied with it. But since the northerners didn't like it, it lead to conflict fast.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This was an act for people in the kansas and nebraska regions to decide whether or not they wanted slavery. This made northerners extremely angry because they wanted slavery abolished. It shouldn't be a choice. While southerners were satisfied knowing that their need was not outlawed. This lead to serious debate especially in those 2 states. People were now fighting in these states with their neighbors on if it was ok or not to have slaves.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    The Dred Scott Decision was an event where the supreme court ruled that an african american man living in a state where slavery is not allowed was not entitled to his freedom and and will never be a citizen in the United States. The Northerners were furious dealing with the inequality and they hated the south for supporting the supreme court decision. It added a lot of fuel to the already burning fire between the two.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The Election of 1860. Abe Lincoln was elected and there was a separation of northern and southern republicans mainly over the topic of slavery. The northerners were thrilled because Abe Lincoln was not in favor of slavery, while the south was so furious that they succeeded and left the country. This lead to the Civil War.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The battle of fort sumter started when the south attacked and bombarded the south because they were in a stand off with Northern officials and Lincoln was going to resupply the fort. So the Southerners took over. This angered the North because they lost a base for 4 years to the south. The south was extremely excited now that they had obtained a secure base. Losing this made the North realize that this meant war with the south.
