    Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition to find a Northwest Passage, make good relation's with Indians, and explore the new land they got from the Lousiana purchase. As a result of the expedition they made good relations with the Indians, and mapped the area, but didn't find a northwest passage because the Rocky Mountains got in the way.

    The goal of his expedition was to find headwater of the Arkansas and Red rivers and to investigate Spanish settlements in new Mexico. As a result of this expedition a mountain was named after him and he explained to people what the midwest was like. He said that Nebraska was a waste land.
