The last supper has been known to be the first time the communion was practiced as Jesus teaches the disciples how to. Short after Jesus is apprehended and the disciples go on to teach others what was taught to them. -
Jesus later made it clear that he was metaphorically speaking when he said "I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh”. -
"Behold the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" were the words John the Baptist referred to Jesus as he understood the significance of the lamb in the old testament as Jesus is the paschal lamb. -
After peace with the Christians, early into the 4th century, Christians grew in numbers and built building of worship and celebrated mass differently to us. -
Christianity during the medieval era is often depicted as heavily armored templar knights leading crusades along with priests. But more commonly were those who were afraid of receiving the sacrament due to feeling unworthy. -
The council tweaked changes in the sacrament that is somewhat similar to how we do it today. This was done to give more significance of the sacrament so it may be similar to receiving the real body and blood of Christ during the last supper. -
Eucharist today is completely different to eucharist in the past. We start of our mass with introductory rites such as an opening song and prayer. When then move on to the liturgy of the word which consists of reading from the gospel. The liturgy of the eucharist is next which is when the taking of the bread and wine happens. The eucharist prayer happens as the priests blesses the bread and wine to be the blood and body of Christ. The communion rite and conclusion rite are next.
