    Common Sense was writtin in January 10, 1776. The author of the pamplet was Thomas Paine. The purpose of the pamphlet was to inspire people in the thirteen colonies to declare and fight for independence. The success of the pamphlet was that it successfuly inspired the people in the thirteen colonies to fight and not give up.

    The main purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explains to foreign nations why the colonies seperated from Great Britain. Preamble is an Introduction to a statement. The first section talks about the rights for humans, three rights.The second section talks about how the people have the right to change a government when it abuses their rights. The third section talks about breaking away from England. The impact is it gained support from many colonies.

    It shifted to the Middle Colonies. Two outcomes were that the British won the Battle of Long Island battle, another one is 89 american officers were imprisoned and 1,097 others were imprisoned too. Nathan Hale was a American Soldier that volunteered for an intelligence-gathering misson in New York, but was captured by the British and executed. The morale was low for the Americans, the army has lost more than half of the Americans from illness.

    The town that the Americans were going to attack was Trenton, New Jersey and the river they had to cross was the icy Delaware River. The people that were guarding the town was the Hessians/Mercanaries and their term and definition is to fight for other countries for payment. The outcome of the battle was that the americans won and they killed 22 Hessians and 98 wounded. The Americans felt a good victory and the morale was high.

    The Battle of Saratoga 1777

    The British's goal was to take over the North. The plan was to march from Canada, down the Hudson River, and to capture Albany. The British failed because British reinforcements did not arrive. General Clinton could only reach to Clermont nearly 50 miles from Albany and 70 from Bemis Heights. The results were that the Americans won, and General Burgoyne surrendered and surrender his men to the American side.

    Valley Forge Winter 1777-1778

    Valley Forge is located in Pennsylvania, the site of the American military. The British camped comfortly in Philadelphia. The conditions were bad, the Americans suffered through horrible conditions. The food was lacking, shelter wasn't enough, and soldiers lacked clothes. The results were was that the Americans struggled to survive, merged with a stronger army.

    The French were waiting until after the American victory at Saratoga to help because they wanted see if the American army were good to join with them and help them. France became the first nation to become an alliance. Baron Friedrich von Steuben was a Prussian military officer, that helped the Americans in the Revolutionary War. His job was to train the American Soldiers in close-order drill in 1778.

    Spain Joins the Fight 1779-1781

    The lands that Spain controlled was the west of the Mississippi stretching as far north as Canada. Spain wanted to get back Florida. Spain provided money and munitions to help the Americans. Spain eventually became America's second official alliance.

    Congress approved the use of a Navy as early as 1775. The American Navy were able to build only a few warships, also with only a small navy going against the powerful British fleet. However the American Navy used hit-and-run attacks, but the British still dominated. The most famous navel battle of the revolution was when the American ship under the control of John Paul Jones, fought side by side with the large British Warship. The British warship surrendered and John Paul won.

    Brighter Days 1780-1781

    The Americans won the the Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780. Nathanael Greene took over command of the American Army in the South. In January 1781, General Daniel Morgan won a clear victory at the Battle of Cowpens. He put a small militia force in front, fire three shots and retreat. The British rushed forward and found a charging calvary and a line of skilled riflemen.

    After the Battle of Cowpens, Gen. Cornwallis headed to Virginia. However he made a fatal mistake because he moved to the Yorktown peninsula. There he thought he could get support from the British fleet, but (First Reason) the French fleet arrived off Yorktown and chased off British ships. The Second reason is Washington rushed to Virginia with American and French troops, Cornwallis found himself traped. On October 19, 1781 the British surrendered.

    The King of Britian wanted to keep fighting, but the Parliament voted in favor of peace. The two Americans that were sent to negotiate peace were Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. The result of the Treaty of Paris is that Britian recognized the independence of the United State. The boundries of the new nation were set at the Atlantic on the east, Canada on the north, the Mississippi River on the west, and Florida on the south.
