Saylor

Erikson Timeline

  • Saylor Expresses Through Dress: Initiative vs Guilt

Saylor (6) decided to dress herself for kindergarten. Her parents met her outfit with praise and adoration so she continued to pick her outfits and develop her own sense of style. In Erikson’s third stage, initiative vs guilt, the crisis is between getting encouraged to be imaginative and express oneself, or be met with criticism and cease to be creative in expressing yourself.
  • Saylor Casts a Vote: Identity vs Identity Confusion

Saylor’s (13) class is doing a pretend poll for the upcoming presidential election and instead of doing her own research she goes with what she knows and votes for who her parents were voting for, and is unable to defend her choice. In Erikson’s fifth stage, identity vs identity confusion, the crisis is between finding ones identity separate from their parents, or being confused about who they really are and what they believe.
  • Saylor Weighs Her Options: Generativity vs Stagnation

Saylor (41) is debating who to vote for in the upcoming local election and eventually decides on the candidate who is campaigning to protect reproductive rights because even though she is past her child bearing years, she wants to make sure her children’s rights are protected. In Erikson’s seventh stage, Generativity vs stagnation the crisis is between caring for the well being of the next generation, or being selfishly focused only on what is best for you.
