In Erickson's fifth stage, Identity vs. Confusion The crisis is between the ages 12-18 as teenagers we can receive a sense of self or we can receive rejection and not be able to develop the sense of self. Those who do not develop the sense of self in this stage it can cause confusion about their future.
  • Ericksons stage 6

Jill age 38 has just ended a 5 year relationship with her boyfriend. Ericksons sixth stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation The crisis is between finding someone to spend the rest of your life with or self isolation and never finding "the one". Without the ability to develop their sense of self often has a hard time committing to long term relationships.
  • Erickson's stage 8

Jill is now 87 and never married or had any children. She has lived by herself with her cat mittens. Erickson's stage eight, Integrity vs. Despair The crisis is between feeling satisfied with ones accomplishments in their life or feeling like they wasted it away. If one feels pride in their accomplishments they are satisfied and if there is no pride they are likely unsatisfied.
