British soldiers were advancing on the Americans from Canada. They were becoming overstretched. By the time they reached Saratoga, in mid-New York, they had been wore down by the colonists and were beaten. The british were pushed back to Canada. The battle also encouraged the French to help the Americans, as they were sure they would be on the winning side, as the Americans were strong enough now to fight the British.
