On this day, the 1848 Seneca Falls Woman's Rights Convention occurred. It was organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott; they provided a list of demands, the Declaration of Sentiments, which involved a requirement that women would be given the same opportunities as men. Many of it's attendants were abolitionists of the time.

This parade occurred the day before President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration to advocate for a woman's right to vote. It consisted of more than 5,000 people, and drew more people towards the cause. It was an event that stayed in the news for a while.

Jeannette Rankin became apart of congress and represented the state of Montana. She continued to advocate for women's rights, and participated in many debates correlating with the issue.

The 19th amendment was adopted by all the states, which allowed American women the right to vote. However, people of color were still unable to vote even with this law in place.

The FDA approved birth control pills which helped remove the weight off many women's shoulders, knowing that they wouldn't need to fear the idea of becoming a parental figure early.
