Oct 24, 1790 First federal census was taken, they count 697,897 slaves. May 22, 1792 Eli looks for jobs to make money and meets Phineas Miller They work on a plantation together Aug 22, 1792 Eli Graduates From Yale Sep 12, 1792 Whitney notices the cotton Industry May 14, 1793 The cotton gin was invented Oct 28, 1793 Eli Whitney applied for a patent Apr 17, 1794 Whitney was granted the Patent for his creation of the cotton gin Period: Apr 24, 1797 to Mar 14, 1808 Unfortunatly it took Eli 10 years to create 10,000 muskets and he wasn't granted money May 22, 1797 The Government was aware of Eli's talents and asked him to create over 10,000 muskets in 3 years. Jul 11, 1802 Whitney's patent was finally granted. He received 50,000 dollars which was only half of their profit due to lawsuits on the debates over the patent.
