Negotiaters sign the treaty that states that the U.S.will pay $15 million for California, New Mexico, and maintain the border of Texas at the Rio Grande. Also, the Mexicans living in these territories can become U.S. citizens. The treaty is not ratified by both the U.S. and Mexican government until May 25, 1848.
